As part of my Sherbrooke University course in Digital Forensics, I try to gather insight from an organization like InterVentis Global, which works in a difficult and sensitive environment related to cyber incidents. I was impressed about how, Calvin Chrustie, was able to bring the human side of cyber incidents at the front and center of the resolution of those incidents.

From the first time I met Calvin (Chrustie) I was impressed by his interest and intellect in the "human element" of cybercrime. I knew he was someone who could bring a great deal of wisdom and advice to helping shape our cybersecurity challenge program for students. Cybercrimes are often viewed as technical offenses that require technical solutions, such as antivirus programs or automated intrusion detection tools. Too often, the human element is overlooked. Calvin reminded our program team that these crimes are committed by individuals or networks of people which prey upon the naivety of people and organizations. He helped us see the impact on organizations and their people (as victims) and the significance that human decision-making plays in an organization's response, actions, and outcomes that determines its fate. We are grateful for Calvin's contributions and support of our program. We look forward to working with him as we chart the future of our education program development to address the human factor in cybercrime: its offenders, victims, and parties involved in tackling cybercrime. Thank you, Calvin!

Calvin’s commitment to strengthening the Canadian response to ransom attacks is unparalleled. The workshop he gave to our members on “Ransom Attack and Response” was an insightful session that gave members concrete actions they can take if they are attacked, he laid out a response plan in soundbites so that companies of all sizes could identify with the actions. He also moderated a panel on Breach Response, helping to clarify the police response and next steps for a victim. He has the unique ability to understand and communicate the human element of cybercrime – from the criminal's motivation to the organization's decision-making process and ultimately to the impact on the victim. We look forward to working with and learning from Calvin again.
